Agriculture has grown to represent the largest footprint on the world’s land surface. That includes animal agriculture which – due to its intense confinement approach – is ripe for disease problems.
African Swine Fever easily spreads and the pigs must be destroyed when the disease shows up. African Swine Fever has surfaced in a number of areas in China, threatening other Asian countries. The issue is so large, that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations is calling a special meeting to discuss detection, actions and resiliency.
Major problems with pig production in China would affect availability and prices around the whole world.
