Ever wonder who the top 10 grocers are in America. Following is the list of the 10 largest grocers:

  1. Walmart from Bentonville, Arkansas.  5,249 stores in the U.S.  Annual consumable sales of $247.5 billion.
  2. Kroger Foods from Cincinnati, Ohio.   3,732 stores in the U.S.   Annual sales of $109.8 billion.
  3. Costco from Issaquah, Washington.   569 stores in the U.S.   Annual consumable sales of 69.4 billion.
  4. Albertson’s from Boise, Idaho.   2,205 stores in the U.S.   Annual sales of $58.3 billion.
  5. CVS Health from Woonsocket, Rhode Island.   7,911 stores in the U.S.   Annual consumable sales of $44.4 billion.
  6. Target from Minneapolis, Minnesota.   1,805 stores in the U.S.   Annual consumable sales of $34.2 billion.
  7. Publix Supermarkets from Lakeland, Florida.   1,115 stores in the U.S. Annual sales of $30.6 billion.
  8. Walgreen from Deerfield, Illinois.   8,173 stores in the U.S.   Annual consumable sales of $28.3 billion.
  9. Ahold USA (Giant Foods, Martin’s Food Markets) from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. 781 stores in the U.S.   Annual sales of $26.1 billion.
  10. H-E-B Grocers from San Antonio, Texas.   370 stores in the U.S.   Annual sales of $23 billion.

For perspective, these 10 super grocers have $672 billion in combined annual sales. This is equivalent to roughly 93 percent of total U.S. annual “at home” food expenditures of $723 billion. Americans spend $731 billion eating out.
