To Hog Farm or Not to Hog Farm

This small county of 21,000 people is facing a dilemma of huge (manure) proportions. According to the Fillmore County Journal, a large hog confinement operation is being proposed within the county that calls for almost 5,000 sows (that produce piglets for pork meat). One adult sow produces ten times as much fecal waste as a human. In short, this proposed facility would produce 2.5 times the waste of the entire population of the county.
