The FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) has given comments on why world food prices continue to rise. Underlying drivers include the use of cropland for biofuels and the ever-growing demand for vegetable oils.
The largest driver of food prices, however, was in meat prices which skyrocketed 18 percent over the past year. Much of the meat price increase is due to the dramatic loss of pigs in China due to the African Swine Fever. You can read the full story here:
