Touch the Soil News #1055 (Feature photo – Sonny Ramaswamy – Photo USDA)
Sonny Ramaswamy is the former director of the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA). The mission of the NIFA (a division of the U.S. Department of agriculture) is to stimulate and fund research and technologies that will enhance American Agriculture.
Sonny came into the news recently from comments he made while speaking at the GreenTech International trade show in Amsterdam. Horticulture Week quotes Sonny as follows:
“The world faces a perfect storm of population growth, malnutrition, obesity, desertification, the spread of pathogens through globalization and a loss of trust in scientists.”
Sonny was the head of the NIFA from March 2012 through May 2018. Now that he is not under government obligation, looks like he can say what is really on his mind.
