The soil-less revolution continues to promote the practice of raising food without soils. One of the arguments is that plants take up nutrients faster with just roots in the water than through the soil. This then begs the question: Does science know every nutrient that comes from the soil that should be in water?

It is true, that hydroponics efficiently allows for super-local production in controlled environments. The following video by Phil Lempert discusses the issues:
