The production of food in cities continues to evolve along lines of social responsibility, teaching children the arts of food growing and fighting food insecurity.
Milwaukee, a city of some 600,000 people in Wisconsin, is host city to the Milwaukee Victory Garden Initiative. It is the nation’s largest ongoing garden building initiative. The non-profit plans to install over 500 gardens in and around the city in 2018. Hundreds of volunteers install raised garden beds in backyards, frontyards, schools, community centers and places of worship. So far, the non-profit has built over 3,500 food gardens in Milwaukee and its outskirts. You can learn more about the effort here: https://www.victorygardeninitiative.org/BLITZ
