Owning Agricultural Assets

Owning agricultural assets has become a big draw for billions of investment dollars.  Does this mean that we should take stock in our own agricultural assets?  For example, how much land is around our home, if we are lucky enough to have a home.  If we are lucky enough to live in a city that has water, how much is that water worth agriculturally?
