News from the nation of Pakistan is putting food and farming into a global perspective. Pakistan is the world’s 5th most populous nation with 243 million people (the U.S. has 334 million people at number 3). However, Pakistan only has about 9 percent of the land mass of the U.S. The nation has identified 45,267 acres of farmland that has been barren, ancient and uninhabited. The plan is to turn it over to the Pakistan Army for control and oversight in bringing this land into a state of productivity. The land is equivalent to a farm 1 mile wide and 70 miles long.
