AgFunder News just published the story on where pumpkins come from and where they go. History has it that pumpkins have been around in the U.S. for 5,000 years. On average, the U.S. produces about 1.5 billion pounds of pumpkins a year.
With food waste a growing concern, pumpkins are certainly mis-treated – particularly at Halloween. In 2015, the US Department of Energy stated that most pumpkins produced in America wind up in the garbage and then in the nation’s landfills.
