Rewarding Instead of Punishing for Behavior Change

Worthy of news is a new Walmart Policy of trying to get employees to improve their work attendance records. Currently hourly workers can miss up to 9 days every six months for unexpected absences. For some of us old-timers, that already seems excessive.

The new plan is to reduce the number of days for unexpected absences to 5 days every six months. However, for employees that limit their unexpected absences to only 6 days a year, they become eligible for a cash bonus every quarter. An employee making $11 per hour could get a quarterly cash bonus of $550.
