The world’s largest solar farm today is in China. The Tengger Desert Solar Park has a peak power output of 1.5 gigawatts. The Tengger solar panels cover an area equal to 10,600 acres.

CleanTechnica journalist Joshua Hill reports on the recent announced by Saudi Arabia to build a 2.6 gigagwatt solar project. Estimates are that 2.6 gigawatts under ideal conditions could power 2.6 million homes. If the facility uses about the same space as was used for the Tengger facility, it would cover an area of 18,300 acres
