Touch the Soil News #955 (Feature photo – Kohl’s Clothes Store – CCA SA 4.0 International)
There is an uneasy battle going on. It’s a battle for dollars. The latest incarnation is the announced plans by Kohl’s clothing stores to allow a portion of its store to be occupied by an Aldi grocery store.
Kohl’s has a number of lager stores that exceed what Kohl’s needs for its own inventory and retail space. Aldi is an aggressive grocer from Germany that is looking to expand its footprint.
Of larger economic concern is the purchasing power of the working public. Most everyone survives financially not from investments. The Kohl’s / Aldi plan will ripple through the entire economy as retailers struggle for consumer dollars. Will some of this downsizing and financial savings at the business level result in weaker purchasing power at the consumer level? What do you think?
