Plug-in cars – either in the form of hybrids or fully battery electric – are now selling over 100,000 models a month around the globe. Few cars, however, are free from the plug-in. Sono Motors of Germany is trying to start changing that by putting high efficiency solar cells on the roof, hood and side doors.
While this electric car can still plug in anywhere for its 155 mile range, it’s solar panels can give it up to an additional 19 miles of charge a day. Money and research is constantly going into higher efficiency solar cells. If Sono can get 19 miles of charge from the sun every day, what might technology offer in another 5 years – 50 miles?
