The Legal Battle – Atmosphere or Gas Guzzlers

The U.S. Presidential Administration announced last July it would cancel the legally mandated increase in fines to automakers for failing to meet mpg goals (CAFE Standards). The fines were set to rise from $55 to $140 per mpg per car sold.

The State of New York sued the Federal Government and recently a federal appeals court sided with New York and allowed the increase to stand.
