To keep sales up, Wal-Mart just opened a new test kitchen at its headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas. Called the Culinary and Innovation Center, the 12,000 square foot facility features 10 kitchens including replicas of the bakery and deli-kitchens found in Wal-Mart Stores.
The whole idea behind the test kitchens is to develop new foods, new packaging and upscale products not previously available. Wal-Mart teams test thousands of items a year, a process the test kitchens will help with in the ongoing search for new product ideas. Will the anticipation of new products like deep fried Twinkies or new organic frozen meals get you to shop more often at Wal-Mart?
Following is a short video clip on the new Wal-Mart test kitchen.
