The actual name of the company was Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. The new name is Walmart, Inc. Getting rid of the hyphen (-) and the word “Stores” is an attempt to subtly remove the idea that Walmart, Inc. is only about stores. The company doesn’t want its name not limit the reality that the company is now not only about stores, but online, on-site pickup, and home delivery via any means possible.
There seems to be a drive for greater flexibility and convenience in how food is accessed. With that convenience comes an increase in the number of players in a typical transaction (think cyber security) as well as an increase in the number of hands involved in getting a product into a consumer’s hands. There are certainly instances that this convenience is a good thing. However, in how many instances might cash and carry fit the bill?
