It’s no secret that farmland is becoming a preferred venue for investment. This means investors are competing with farmers for ownership of farmland. In the reverse, investors may buy farmland in order to free up equity for the farmer for other things. A recent news release by Gladstone Land (a Wall Street company that buys and owns farmland that is then leased out to reputable farmers) covers the purchase of 1,317 gross acres of vineyards with ample water. The land is located in Washington and Oregon. At a purchase price of $37.3 million acres, that comes to $28,320 per acre.
With land costs reaching historically high levels, access to land and its productivity become of paramount importance. You can read the news release here: https://www.gladstonefarms.com/investors/news-events/press-releases/detail/297/gladstone-land-acquires-vineyards-in-washington-and-oregon
