While automotive sales are not the only sign that the economy is struggling, it is certainly an indicator of the times. CleanTechnica journalist Zachary Shahan, while he is pro-electric cars, also follows the mainstream auto market. Shahan illustrates with graphics how much automakers have been struggling the first six months of this year – car sales are down by almost 162,000 units. While that is not too dramatic considering that total annual sales in the U.S. are between 16 and 17 million units, it does make one wonder with so many retail stores closing at the same time.
