When Nations Can’t Grow Their Own Food

The urbanization of first-world nations has essentially paved over much of the world’s best farmlands. But what happens to the food production off of millions of acres of destroyed farmland? There are two big things that happen: 1) Large multinational corporations move into third-world nations and acquire farmland often by dispossessing indigenous people. 2) Lack of transparency as critical forest ecosystems are slashed and burned for corn, soybeans, palm oil and livestock farming.
