SoCal Edison, one of the largest electric utilities (has 14 million customers in Southern California). According to GTM News, the company is requesting $760 million to install 48,000 electric vehicle charging ports over the next four years. The company already has 1,000 charging stations.
The California Public Utilities Commission has to approve the plan as it will be ratepayers that ultimately pay the bill.
So why would a public utility want to install 48,000 charging points? Perhaps it is all about the money. If you can get folks to buy your electricity to run their cars, then you get the cash flows that would have gone to the oil companies.
