Power Blackout – Should Power Grids Be De-Centralized?

Last week, the nation of Argentina and parts of Uruguay and Paraguay fell into total darkness for the better part of a full day. Estimates are that up to 50 million people were affected by one massive power outage.

The global race for interconnectedness is starting to show some side effects when things go wrong. Is a nation better off with hundreds of small and renewable energy systems, or a multinational grid exposed to equally large failures? Energy Central journalist Henry Craver brings more of the story:
