Making news recently is that the Kia Soul EV became the number one selling electric car in Germany this past month. There were 721 Kia Soul electric vehicles sold in Germany for April and only 71 Teslas. Is BMW Trending Towards Electric?

BMW remains optimistic that it will sell 140,000 plug-ins in 2018 from approximately 10 plug-in models that are now available. Globally, for February 2018, 4.4 percent of all BMW car sales were plug-ins. If electric plug-in car sales continue to increase by over 40 percent a year, they will represent over 10 percent of BMW car sales in just three years. Electric (plug-in) Car Sales Boom in 2018

For February, U.S. EV sales hit a robust 16,489 units. Compare that to 12.375 units in February 2017. This means EV sales for February 2018 are up 33 percent over February, 2017. The highest sales went to the Tesla Model 3 at 2,485 units. Tesla has a long way to go in building Model 3s. Remember, it has some 450,000 reservation holders. China’s Electric Car Sales Soar – 3 times the U.S. Market

That is a 26 percent increase from 2016 sales of 158,614 units. Chinese plug-in-car sales for 2017 surged to over 600,000 according to Clean Technica. That’s up a significant 71 percent from 2016. China’s plug-in car market is close to 50 percent of the world’s sales – approximately 1.2 million units were sold globally in 2017. Global plug-in-car sales in 2016 were at 1.04 million.
