The Demand for Land and Water is Growing

The island of Oahu, home to Hawaii’s largest city Honolulu, hosts a population of over 1 million.  This relatively small island is mostly mountains with very little land to grow a garden.  While there are efforts at expanding community garden plots, there are over 600 people on wait lists.   The People’s Network news portal brings us the story of how efforts are underway to expand the gardening dream for hundreds of people.

The signal for more access to land and water near major metropolitan areas is getting stronger and clearer.  How much might people pay to have access to professionally managed farmland with plot sizes for all urban farming visions?  While city recreation departments and community gardening associations currently dominate this space, is the demand calling for some larger private entrepreneur that can supply land, water, tools, coaching and access to the best and proven inputs?  You can read the full story here:
