Buying and Converting Farms to Organics

Gladstone Land is an investor owned company that specializes is owing farmland and leasing it back to proven agricultural producers. The company recently announced that it purchased two farms in Nebraska totaling 3,850 acres for $14.7 million.

Plans are to convert the conventional production of corn and soybeans into organic grains. In addition to purchasing the farms, Gladstone will finance new irrigation pivots and grain handling facility. What makes Gladstone interesting is that they step into a farm situation with the capital for expansion and production that farmers may be unable to finance.
