Manila, Philippines – Turning A City Into A Big Community Garden

The Manila Bulletin reports efforts underway to accelerate the proliferation of urban food in Manila, a city in the heart of a metro area of almost 20 million people.

The reason for the increasing attention to local and urban food stems from several reasons – ongoing global population growth, kinks in the supply chains, urbanization, and a global rise in the cost of food of almost 40 percent over the past year, according to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization. This could be the largest year over year increase in the price of food in modern history. You can read the Manila story here:
